Con-way Freight's new Service Center Operations (SCO) system leverages services-oriented and event-driven architectures with an interactive geographic information system mapping interface. It allows dispatchers, inbound and outbound planners, dock supervisors and customer service staffers to dynamically execute pickup, delivery and line-haul plans. Another key benefit is that components built for the SCO system are accessible to multiple subsidiaries at Con-way, according to the companies.

ObjectFX technology is used in an interactive map-based display that provides a geospatial view of Con-way service centers, pick-up and delivery locations and planned delivery routes. It is also part of an interactive planning and dispatch module that allows users to find optimized routes based on driving time and distance, maintain routes, determine the optimum sequencing of pick-ups and deliveries, and create delivery plans, according to the companies.

The Web-based system makes extensive use of SpatialFX for map visualization, access to business data, routing and geocoding, Con-Way said.

The new SCO system is helping the company to better use drivers, dispatchers, and equipment; reduce miles driven and fuel costs; arrange for more timely pick-ups and deliveries; and reduce overtime and other company costs.
