The iPad mini rumor gains some steam, even as the current iPad gets ready for cold weather. Meanwhile Siri bones up on sports and plane-spotting. The remainders for Tuesday, March 27, 2012 are flying high.

That might be overstating the case by, oh, about 162. Long story short: A 7.85-inch iPad would have the same pixels per inch as a pre-Retina iPhone and the same resolution as a pre-Retina iPad. Synergy! (It's not just for putting on your toast any more.)

"Siri, who's winning the Red Sox-Yankees game?" Right now, that query will just prompt the iPhone 4S's virtual assistant to run a Web search for you. But in the future--!--Siri might actually be able to give you that score, if developer Evan Coleman is right. Hopefully, Siri will also be able to use geolocation to add, for the virtue of us Boston natives, that the Yankees suck.

Speaking of Siri, here's a neat tip: You can ask Siri to search Wolfram Alpha for planes overhead, and it'll tell you which flights are passing over your current location. I wonder if Siri ?

Cupertino's Chamber of Commerce posthumously honored Steve Jobs with the President's Award at the organization's Service Teamwork Achievement Recognition (STAR) awards this past weekend. Apple senior manager for state and local government affairs, Michael Foulkes, accepted the award on Jobs's behalf, saying that the former CEO "hated awards, especially awards about him."

- Apple has released the latest version of its music writing, recording, and editing software Logic Pro for Mac. Logic Pro 9.1.7 resolves issues related to downloading and installing content. It also updates compatibility with GarageBand for iOS projects and fixes a bug that produced an error message when editing fades. $200; upgrade is free for Logic Pro 9 users.
