WebMethods acquires SOA vendor Infravio

11.09.2006
WebMethods Inc. announced plans Monday to acquire Infravio Inc., which provides service-oriented architecture (SOA) registry and governance tools, for US$38 million.

The deal, expected to close later this this month, will pair Infravio's tools with WebMethods technology that is designed to allow companies to maintain service-level agreements and quality of service for an SOA, according to officials at Fairfax, Va.-based WebMethods.

This is the second acquisition that WebMethods has announced in the past three weeks. In August, the company announced plans to acquire Cerebra Inc., which specializes in metadata management tools.

Infravio is the latest independent SOA registry and governance vendor to be acquired. Systinet Corp., which was acquired earlier this year by Mercury Interactive Corp., is now part of Hewlett-Packard Co., and BEA Systems Inc. announced in August that it had acquired Flashline Inc.

Cupertino, Calif.-based Infravio's customers include Verizon Communications Inc., The McGraw-Hill Cos., Lockheed Martin Corp. and Sprint Nextel Corp.
