Wait! Don't Rush Out for Droid Bionic or Mango Just Yet

08.09.2011
It's an exciting time for high-end smartphones--HTC unveiled a couple hot smartphones coming soon, and the Droid Bionic is available from Verizon starting today. Devices like the HTC Titan and the Droid Bionic are impressive, but do yourself a favor and wait a month or two before getting a new smartphone.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind . The thing is blazing fast--both in performance with its dual-core processor, and in bandwidth with its 4G/LTE capabilities. It has an 8-megapixel camera that can shoot video in 1080p HD. What's not to like?

The you have the upcoming running Windows Phone 7.5 "Mango". The Titan looks pretty awesome with its massive 4.7-inch display. Windows Phone 7 with the NoDo build has had a somewhat tepid reception, but there is and anticipation of smartphones built on the updated Windows Phone 7 platform is high.

But, as awesome as these smartphones seem, you can't ignore the fact that the iPhone 5 and the Google Nexus Prime are both imminent. Yes, I understand that the launch of these devices is a matter of speculation at this point--and yes, I know that there will always be a new hot, greater, better, faster smartphone on the horizon. But this is different.

I am not talking about just a couple other run-of-the-mill smartphones with minor tweaks or slightly different hardware specs. I am talking about a major upgrade to iOS with iOS 5 and the introduction of iCloud , and I am --the newest major upgrade to the Android OS and the Nexus Prime smartphone engineered to take advantage of it.

That Droid Bionic or HTC Titan may be awesome out of the box. But, within a matter of weeks you could find that your top-of-the-line smartphone has already been leap-frogged and rendered obsolete.
