The app is still in production, but when it's launched subscribers of Verizon's FIOS service will be able to live TV to their iPads using their FIOS set-top boxes. That means, of course, that this is not as revolutionary as it sounds, as users will only be able to stream TV within their own home, so that Verizon can authenticate the service.

Verizon CIO Shaygan Kheradpir said in a press briefing that the technology for streaming live television to users' iPads is already ready, and that Verizon is currently discussing the idea with content partners (to ensure they're comfortable with non-television devices streaming their content).

The Verizon app would be similar to the and apps in that it would help bring television to the iPad--the difference, of course, is that it would bring live TV, including news and sports broadcasts. Over the past few months, Comcast, Cablevision, and Time Warner Cable have also demonstrated iPad app prototypes--though most of them involve remote control and DVR options, not live streaming.
