BPO service provider Perot Systems will open a delivery center in the Philippines in January 2007 to serve requirements of its health care client base in the U.S. market.

The Plano, Texas-based company, founded by billionaire American businessman Ross Perot, is looking to establish its Philippine operations in two phases: first, to set up an office Metro Manila and later on expand outside of the capital city.

Perot Systems' first phase of operations will have about 200 seats, said Enrique Cortes-Rello, an advisor to the company's CEO, Peter Altabef, and part of a delegation from India that visited the country earlier this week.

The company has three delivery centers in India, including one in Chennai, which handles health care services, including claims processing and other 'hospital-to-insurance' processes.

In an interview, Cortes-Rello said the Philippine delivery center will be modeled after the one in Chennai. While he did not give an exact investment amount, he noted that the standard capex (capital expenditure) per seat amounts to about US$8,000.

'A client actually suggested that we open up an office here. Based on our research, Filipino workers are very much service-oriented,' he said.
