IT services and hardware vendor Unisys Corp. has joined the nonprofit Open Source Development Labs Inc. (OSDL), a move that comes as the company continues to expand its involvement in Linux and open-source products. The Beaverton, Ore.-based OSDL is a global consortium working to accelerate the adoption of Linux in corporate computing.

Last month, Blue Bell, Pa.-based Unisys joined the Red Hat Partner Community, and in August, it announced the expanded availability of Linux on its ES7000 server line.

Unisys President and CEO Joe McGrath said in a statement that enterprise customers are demanding industrial-strength Linux applications and that Unisys wants to be involved in the process. "By participating in OSDL"s working groups, we"ll contribute to important discussions with Linux developers, other IT vendors and end users to help advance the adoption of Linux in the enterprise data center," McGrath said.

Members of the OSDL, which was founded in 2000, include The Unilever Group, Cisco Systems Inc., Computer Associates International Inc., Dell Inc., LM Ericsson Telephone Co., Hewlett-Packard Co., IBM, Intel Corp., Linuxcare Inc., NEC Corp., Nokia Corp., Red Hat Inc., Sun Microsystems Inc. and SUSE Inc.
