Sony to recall LittleBigPlanet due to Quran references

17.10.2008
The gaming world is a buzz Friday morning with news from , stating that Sony has begun a worldwide recall of LittleBigPlanet (set to release next Tuesday) for containing at least two references to holy Islamic text.

"During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Quran," Sony said in statement today. "We have taken immediate action to rectify this, and we sincerely apologize for any offense that this may have caused."

The sensitive phrases are allegedly in the first 30 seconds of the background music to the Swinging Safari level. Sony says they will begin shipping the revised game in North America the week of October 27.

This isn't the first time a game has been recalled for referencing the Quran. In 2003, for Xbox was pulled from retail for containing holy Islamic text. It was later re-released with the offending content removed.
