SingTel wins multimillion-dollar contract

20.11.2008
Singapore telco SingTel has won a multi-million-dollar contract from Torm Shipping, a leading European maritime company.

The contract is to implement SingTel's global maritime very small aperture terminal (GMVSAT) service for Torm's fleet of 100 ships.

SingTel's GMVSAT service provides Torm with a maritime broadband solution with seamless, worldwide coverage over major shipping routes.

Equipped with advanced auto-beam switching capability, the service will help the Danish company to save time and resources by allowing its vessels to move from one ocean region to another without the need for re-configurations of satellite communications equipment.

'Always on' broadband

The solution provides secure 'always-on' unlimited broadband connectivity. This allows Torm to extend office applications such as e-mail, Internet and Intranet access and voice communications to its employees at sea more cost-effectively than pay-as-you-use services.
