Sega stats: Mario & Sonic, Bayonetta sell millions

Sega Sammy, the parent company of video game publisher Sega, released its investor reports earlier today, revealing the company's sales figures for the last nine months of 2009 and its outlook for 2010. The company's biggest boast comes in the form of two holiday titles already establishing solid sales figures, as Bayonetta reached 1.1 million units in sales and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games sits at 5.67 million units. The former is impressive as that number doesn't include the US and European numbers since the game's localized launch in January, while the latter is bound to have a resurgence when the Winter Olympics begin next week.

The company also revealed its sales figures per console over the past nine months, as well as its predictions for the entire fiscal year ending in March. The company's Xbox 360 software sales of 790,000 have been dreadful thus far, outselling only PC as a platform, and lagging far behind the million-plus sales Sega games have pulled in on the PS3 and PSP, not to mention the DS and Wii, which sit at 3.1 million units and 4.6 million units, respectively. However, the outlook for the next three months seems to indicate a huge turnaround for Sega's Xbox 360 wares,as the US release of Bayonetta and Aliens vs. Predator should push Sega's sales numbers on that platform up to almost 3.5 million units. The company is also predicting big things for the PS3, as it expects PS3 software to overtake Nintendo DS before the end of the fiscal year.
