Renaissance still behind the scenes with Apple NZ

Following Apple Computer Inc.'s launch of iTunes and Apple online store in New Zealand today, Renaissance Ltd. will no longer be maintaining the Web site and online store on Apple's behalf, said Paul Johnston, managing director of Renaissance. But apart from that, everything else remains unchanged, he said.

'We are still responsible for all the distribution into the channel in New Zealand. Our contractual relationship with Apple hasn't changed,' he said.

'The major thing is that the store is now part of the worldwide pricing model, [which] means that the pricing of the products has become more affordable to New Zealanders, and we are obviously very happy with that,' he said.

Renaissance expects this to help increase overall demand for Apple products across the channels in the country.

Johnston does not believe that the change will mean that Renaissance will have to cut back on staff.

'Any time there is a change in the business model, obviously you have to look at what you are doing,' he said. '[The staff] is very positive about [the change] and we see continued growth in the Apple business in New Zealand.'
