Rally adds Eclipse link to hosted developer service

Rally Software Development is adding an Eclipse plug-in as well as features such as advanced filters for defect management to its hosted service for software lifecycle management.

Improvements are being made in Rally Release 5.5, which provides for management of agile software development projects.

Available now, the Eclipse plug-in allows developers to view and update Rally tasks from within the Eclipse IDE.''

New features for defect customization include advanced filters for defect management, development of custom fields for classifying defect attributes and custom views for defining summary views and displaying fields of interest. These features are available October 1.

Program management features, available November 19, include cross-project reporting, to provide visibility into status on all projects; and management of team resources across projects.

Rally differs from source code-based development services such as CollabNet, said Ryan Martens, Rally president and founder. "We're much more centered around the project management capabilities and we can run on top of CollabNet or SourceForge," or on top of a user's own source code management system, he said.
