Queensland health practitioners ready for registration

21.04.2006
The Queensland Office of Health Practitioner Registration Boards (OHPRB) in Australia is on the verge of implementing a registration system to process and manage all health practitioner registrations for the state.

The system, dubbed the Regulatory Services System, will control the business processes and workflow around the registration, health monitoring and complaint management of all Queensland health practitioners

Queensland currently has 36,000 health practitioners managed by 13 separate health practitioner boards. A contract to develop, implement and maintain the Regulatory Services System spanning nearly three years has been awarded to a consortium of Unisys, Portrait Software and Merido.

Portrait Software will provide customer interaction applications, Merido will supply the enterprise content management application, with Unisys integrating the two on the existing Microsoft Sharepoint platform.

The contract was signed in December 2005 and involves system support for two years following an expected 11-month implementation period. Implementation has just started.

Jim O'Dempsey, OHPRB executive officer, said the project is the first step in developing a system to register Queensland's health practitioners in fields ranging from medicine and dentistry to pharmacy and speech pathology.
