IBM adds to Power5 lineup

IBM Corp. last week rolled out a low-end, power5-based 64-bit eServer OpenPower Model 710 that supports Linux distributions by both Red Hat Inc. and Novell Inc. The server can be purchased with the company"s virtualization and micropartitioning software. Along with the new hardware, IBM also announced OpenPower Consolidation Express software that is intended to allow midsize users to streamline their overall IT infrastructure. The company also announced that SAP products have been certified to run on the Model 710 and, later this quarter, Sybase Inc. products will also be certified as well for that machine. StorageTek preserves archived data

StorageTek last week introduced Lifecycle Fixed Content Manager 100 to help customers address long-term storage issues and preserve archival data. It is designed to prevent the alteration or deletion of data for as long as a business deems necessary. Infragistics improves app dev testing tools

Infragistics last week released TestAdvantage, which provides automated regression testing of the presentation layer or user interface in Windows Forms applications built on the .Net platform. TestAdvantage functions with Infragistics" NetAdvantage presentation layer toolset and features custom libraries built using Mercury Interactive Corp."s QuickTest Professional .Net technology. Tira ports J2ME apps across handsets

This week Tira Wireless Inc. will introduce Jump Product Suite for porting mobile Java applications to more than 350 Java-enabled handsets, making Tira one of the early companies to offer a packaged application for the automated porting of J2ME applications to various handsets. The product includes Jump Workflow Manager, Jump Developers Desktop, and the Jump Transformation engine. License fees for the suite are $30,000 for 25 seats, plus a per-port fee ranging from $50 to $350, depending on the complexity of the port.
