Powercom reports sales increases in Russia

Sales by Powercom America Inc. in Russia over the last four quarters have increased 19 percent in terms of revenue and 22 percent in unit shipments.

Heavy-duty equipment for the corporate market was the fastest growing segment with a growth rate as high as 75 percent, according to Alexandre Khoroshilov, marketing director at Powercom's representative office. Powercom manufactures uninterruptible power supply (UPS) devices.

According to Frost & Sullivan, Powercom is the second to American Power Conversion Corp. in the worldwide UPS market. In 2005, Powercom made US$120 million in revenue. Sales in Russia accounted for 10 percent to 15 percent of Powercom's total.

Powercom is also second in the Russian market, with 6.7 percent in sales and 13.8 percent in unit shipments in 2005, according to the local analyst firm IT Research. In the second quarter of this year, Powercom had 5.3 percent of the market in sales and 12.2 percent in unit shipments. The market leader, APC, controls about 60 percent share in money terms.

Some 2 million UPS devices were sold for about $300 million in 2005 in Russia, IT Research reported.

Powercom continues to cooperate with its six distributors: Dealine, Marvel, Merlion, Rosco, MSS and Nevada-DV. Its partnership network includes 331 authorized dealers and 92 service centers in 57 towns across the country.
