PhotoChaining mixes digital photography, Web, memory cards

Bored with posting photos on Flickr? Try "Photochaining," a little activity which requires more effort but is infinitely more entertaining.

Here's how it works: Take funny or creative shots using a cheap memory card, stick the card with an explanatory note in a clear plastic bag, and leave the bag in a public place where someone else can find it and repeat the process. It's like only with camera cards.

Those who find a peripatetic memory card are asked to choose one photo to post on the along with the name the owner gave the card and the location and date found.

So far only 19 cards have been reported found but they hail from around the world. Participants can give hints as to where they will be leaving a card, though so far most people aren't being very helpful. (Can we have something a little more specific than "Switzerland"?) There is also a card tracking feature -- not yet working when I checked -- that reveals where a card that has been unleashed on the public currently is.

Its an intriguing idea which hopes for a little bit of serendipity. A romantic comedy based on the game is sure to come soon -- starring Meg Ryan, of course.
