Philippines president: Technology will aid outsourcing

As the world 'gets flatter,' the better the Philippines will be able to create a 'new economy.'

So said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo when she addressed the Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (ACPAC) 2006 spring conference, for which the country recently played host to representatives from 25 independent American Chambers of Commerce in 19 economies.

A 'revolution in technology,' she pointed out is 'creating new collaboration and opportunities like no other time in world history,' adding that high-speed Internet and fiber optic cables have allowed the Philippine outsourcing industry to grow dramatically.

'Thousands of Filipinos work in a high-tech, highly professional environment and feed not only their families, but feed the world the core technology that drives the flat global order,' the President noted
