A user can also opt for the company's Internet SIM card, which goes for about $74.30 and comes with a free three-month service.

For equivalent service, other providers charge between $43.50 to $61.5. Before Orange came onto the market with its mobile service, Warid Telecom offered the cheapest 1GB capacity, at $43.40 with a special pricing provision for their modem.

Uganda Telecom's monthly price is higher because its service is delivered via the 3G technology platform, compared to the 2G platforms that both MTN and Zain use. Orange's offering, however, is based on a 3.5G network, dubbed High-Speed Downlink Packet Access.

With Orange's offering, users are able to browse the Internet but the service is limiting if one has to download especially heavy data, music or video files
