Nintendo won't be exhibiting at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show after all.

Starting on Monday, gaming magazines and blogs began writing that after a 16-year hiatus, Nintendo would once again exhibit at CES in January.

that Nintendo might use the occasion to showcase the Nintendo 3DS portable gaming device, scheduled to be introduced in February in Japan.

However, the Consumer Electronics Association, which plans the conference, now says that it erroneously included Nintendo of America among companies exhibiting as part of the gaming showcase at the conference. Nintendo will take meeting rooms at the conference but won't exhibit, CEA said in a press release issued Tuesday.

Gaming companies that will exhibit include AMD, Intel, HP, Microsoft, Nokia and Sony, CEA said. Publishers and developers including Cosmi, DC Comics/Warner and DreamWorks Animation will also be there.

CES takes place in Las Vegas from Jan. 6 through Jan. 9.
