A glitch in the computer system that connects the Worldspan Technologies Inc. global distribution system and some Northwest Airlines Inc. airport systems delayed more than 200 flights across the U.S. last Tuesday. The company said a small number of flights were canceled as a result. The cause of the problem had not been found by midweek, when the system returned to normal.

Intel slashes some desktop CPU prices

Intel Corp. has slashed prices on some desktop PC microprocessors by more than half, raising the stakes in its battle with Advanced Micro Devices Inc., which had cut prices earlier. Intel slashed the cost of its Pentium D processor, the 960, by 40 percent to US$316, according to a price list on its Web site late last week. Intel also cut prices by up to 58 percent on some of its Pentium 4 processors that support hyperthreading technology.

Missing government laptop is found

A laptop computer containing the personal data of more than half a million New York state workers has been found. The laptop, which disappeared on May 9, belonged to the New York Special Funds Conservation Committee. It was last seen in the offices of CS Stars LLC. The third-party data management company confirmed that the laptop was found but declined further comment.
