New governance portal takes aim at bad IT

A new portal has been launched to help business people better understand the strategic importance of IT governance and project management.

Melbourne-based business consulting firm Capability Management Pty Ltd. has launched project-sponsor.com with the aim of providing a portal of resources for senior managers looking to learn more about IT governance.

The site's first offering is a free 20-page e-book titled Why Project Governance is important, which has recommendations on the entire project - from the project's scope and value proposition, to identifying failures and measuring the business benefits.

Capability Management's executive chairman Jed Simms said the site was launched with a focus to equip the business side of the equation to get the value they want out of projects.

"The IT industry is thinking data and processes while the business is thinking cost effectiveness, so we need to bridge the gaps," Simms said, adding the goal of project-sponsor.com is to provide guides and help to boards and executives.

Simms also wants project-sponsor.com to become an industry portal and not just something owned and contributed to by Capability Management. He is now seeking material on IT governance and ITIL.
