Microsoft offers Office 2008 fix for Open XML documents

Microsoft on Thursday posted , an update to their office productivity software suite for the Macintosh. The new update is available for download from their Web site. Office also features an auto update mechanism that did not recognize this update as available as posted this article.

The update corrects a problem that prevented Office 2008 from opening some Open XML documents. Office 2008 would, under certain circumstances, display an error indicating that it couldn't open the file, and instructed the user to download a more recent update of Office for Mac.

Microsoft indicates that the problem affected Open XML Word, Excel, PowerPoint presentation and PowerPoint show files, along with templates and macro-enabled Open XML documents and templates.

System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later and Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.2.0.
