As part of the deal, Westinghouse will enable McAfee Enterprise Security Manager and Network Intrusion Prevention Systems to operate nuclear power plants that have digital control systems and new global plants under construction.

It also allows Westinghouse to provide its customers with stronger attack detection and prevention capabilities through security information and event management, as well as intrusion prevention that address architectural and threat concerns to nuclear power plant control systems.

According to Westinghouse, it selected McAfee after thoroughly evaluating, testing and certifying its systems.

"Teaming up with McAfee has enabled us to expand our capabilities and help our customers maintain cyber security for digital control systems at both operating nuclear plants and those currently under construction," Westinghouse nuclear automation senior vice-president, David Howell, said.
