Juniper Networks Malaysia country manager, Wan Kamal, said the T1600 has been verified as the industry's most energy efficient core router by new Energy Consumption Rating (ECR) tests, using performance testing firm Ixia's IxGreen energy measurement solution. "The tests--conducted at Ixia's iSimCity in Santa Clara--on the T1600 showed a performance-per-energy unit rating of 9.1 watts per Gpbs (gigabits per second)," said Kamal.

According to Kamal, the T1600 is a core router that can deliver 25 per cent more routing capacity at half the footprint and with up to 40 per cent less power than competing solutions.

ECR result of new collaboration

Kamal said that ECR, which was developed in collaboration between Juniper Networks, Ixia and Lawrence Berkeley National Labs, was an open initiative that welcomed participants and users from network equipment manufacturers, government agencies, carriers and enterprises.

Ixia president and chief executive office Atul Bhatnagar said that ECR used a vendor-neutral energy efficiency metric that created a common energy denominator between different network and telecom systems. "The ECR methodology defines the procedures and conditions for measurements and calculations, and can be readily implemented with industry-standard test equipment."
