ISACA survey highlights importance of IT governance

13.10.2011
Business executives and CIOs around the world and across industries agree that information technology is a valued investment in achieving an effective business strategy and vision. This was reaffirmed by a recent survey conducted by ISACA and the IT Governance Institute IITGI) on Governance Enterprise IT (GEIT).

ISACA is a worldwide association of information system professionals dedicated to the audit, control and security of information systems. It created ITGI to focus on original research on IT governance and related topics. The institute helps enterprise leaders understand why IT goals must align with those of the business, how IT delivers value, and how its performance is measured, its resources properly allocated and risks mitigated.

Key findings of the survey showed that the strongest factor influencing the implementation of GEIT practices is the business objective or strategy. It also showed that the top two benefits achieved from GEIT practices are improved management of IT-related risk and improved communication and relationships between business and IT.

The survey, which covered 834 business executives and CIOs from 21 countries and 10 industries, was conducted to find out what these decision-makers think about the role of IT in their enterprises.

Meanwhile, the ISACA Manila Chapter will hold the 2011 Information Security Summit on Nov. 22, at New World Hotel in Makati City. With the theme "Information Security in a Borderless World," the summit will feature speakers from leading advocates of information security who will share their insights on managing crucial data in enterprises today.
