Regardless of the answer, the creator of Mega Man still feels like he could've done more to save the game. On , Inafune stressed that he was just as upset as the rest of Mega Man's fanbase that the project was shut down. However, it sounds like Mega Man Legend 3 was doomed to be cancelled either way, as Inafune cites that poor Mega Man sales overall make a proposal for MML3 "difficult."

As notes, Inafune seemed to deliberately avoid mentioning the Mega Man series by name, which seems odd.

"The decision for the cancellation was out of my sphere, but as someone who took part in the development, I'd like to convey something to the staff: I'm sorry that I couldn't be of assistance," [Inafune] said.

The outspoken developer continued, noting that the team behind the project was motivated and capable, making the sudden cancellation even more upsetting.
