Identify Mysterious Media with SnapTell

19.12.2008
I don't know how it does it, but is a remarkable piece of iPhone / iPod Touch software that can decipher a photo (either taken by SnapTell or in your camera roll) of any book, DVD, CD or video game cover and tell you what the product is. Not only that, it will also link you to the product's listing on Amazon, eBay, Wikipedia and more. Great stuff--when it works.

Unfortunately, SnapTell Explorer crashed and froze several times during my testing on iPhone 3G 2.2. These crashes and freezes could not be duplicated and seemed to happen at random. One freeze required a hard restart.

When it wasn't crashing, SnapTell Explorer admirably recognized two books and a comedy CD, each from a simple iPhone photo. Though it did crash frequently, the recognition portion of the software worked wonders.

Version 1.1 is the second version of SnapTell Explorer, and SnapTell, Inc. promises a new version is winging its way through development. Once the crashes subside, SnapTell Explorer will be very handy for holidays, birthdays or any shopping in general.
