IBM buying asset management apps vendor MRO Software

In its second acquisition in two days, IBM Thursday unveiled plans to buy asset and service management software vendor MRO Software Inc. In an announced the acquisition of services-oriented architecture (SOA) vendor Webify Solutions Inc., which will be integrated into IBM's Software Group and WebSphere middleware product family.

Under the deal announced Thursday, MRO's asset management technology and consulting services will be integrated into IBM Software and IBM Global Services divisions. The two companies have been business partners since 1996.

"In a recent IBM study, 40 percent of CEOs indicated that asset utilization would be a key focus in strengthening financial performance," Al Zollar, general manager of IBM's Tivoli software group, said in a statement.

"This acquisition will provide companies with a single view into all of their assets, helping them to maximize efficiencies, drive productivity and innovate business processes across the enterprise."

MRO's operations will become a business unit of IBM's Tivoli division, and MRO's software technologies will be integrated into the Tivoli software line.

Chip Drapeau, president and CEO of MRO, said in a statement that the acquisition "opens a world of opportunity for our clients and our employees. By integrating our asset management capabilities with IBM, a leader in IT management software and asset management consulting, we can offer our customers a complete asset management solution on a global scale."
