Hyperion hooks up with Google Search Appliance

Hyperion Solutions Corp. announced support Tuesday for the Google OneBox for Enterprise, which is a part of the Google Search Appliance.

By integrating with the appliance, Hyperion users can access business intelligence-related dashboards, reports, metrics and other unstructured corporate content and financial applications, according to Hyperion.

Through the Google-powered search window, users can find pre-existing query answers and also answers to new queries. The search tool will create an answer to a new query by searching relevant financial and operational data and automatically querying, calculating and presenting information, said Tobin Gilman, Hyperion's senior director of product marketing. The data can originate from various relational and multidimensional sources.

"We're all trying to find ways to make business intelligence more pervasive," Gilman said. "When you can make BI accessible through something as easy as Google, that can be a pretty powerful thing."

In addition to receiving search results, users can further refine their queries to get more detailed answers, similar to how they can drill down on reports or analytic dashboards.

The Google search option -- set to be available before the end of the year -- is accessible through Hyperion's System 9 set of tools.
