High-Tech Dog Collar Sends You a Text Message if Your Pooch Overheats

16.08.2012
If you own a dog, you probably already know that it isn't not safe to leave your pooch in a hot car. Of course, dogs don't just overheat in cars--like humans, dogs can get too hot wherever they are if they can't get in the shade.

This is why design agency and the Toronto Humane Society came up with the collar. The idea came to Rethink partner Aaron Starkman when he for a few minutes while grocery shopping, only to return to a very hot, distressed mutt.

The dog collar is not dissimilar to the special collar designed for sheep to . Only this time, when the ambient temperature reaches 80 degrees, the collar will send you a text message to warn you.

The collar is quite straightforward: A box containing a SIM card, a thermometer, and coded chip sits on the collar. Presently, the idea is just a prototype, but Rethink hopes that with a bit of crowdfunding, the collar will be on the market next year for about $20.
