When you fire up the app, it starts to locate you via GPS. As the location is refined, you can click the one and only button ("eMail"). Doing so will launch a new e-mail and paste in a link to your location via Google Maps. There isn't much more to it than that. You can set a defaults for the e-mail address and subject line by going to your iPhone settings (Home Screen -> Settings -> Here I Am).

In essence, this app is really nothing than a macro that automates location finding in Google Maps and drafts an e-mail with the link--and it doesn't pretend to anything more than that. But it does that one task consistently well.

So why should this live on your Home Screen? I have found many instances scenarios in which the one-click simplicity has efficiently solved problems for me. Say I'm stuck in traffic--an alarmingly common occurrence on the highways of Virginia. With just two taps in Here I Am, I can send an e-mail to my wife letting her know where I am and when I was there--much safer than taking your eyes off the road to tap out a text message, and I don't have to actually make a call. It is one of those sweet little tools that you'll find uses for the more you use it.

Here I Am is compatible with any iPhone or iPod touch running the iPhone 2.x software update.
