Hellgate Open Beta

24.06.2011
The newly-remade free to play MMO Hellgate is launching its open beta on June 30 -- that's next Thursday -- and bringing with it two new game modes.

Duel Area is pretty self-explanatory, although rather than one-on-one duels it offers team-based player vs player action. Four different areas are on offer, all of which sound suitably cheery -- take your pick from the Abandoned Passage, Black Wall Way, Forgotten Grave or the Passage of Hallucination. The plan for PvP is to have a regularly-updated leaderboard on Hellgate's website, where the top ten players each week will receive rewards.

The bizarrely-named Cow Room mode has nothing to do with cows. Instead, it pits players against a horde of zombies and the Cow Room boss whilst avoiding a vision-reducing sandstorm. In order to access the Cow Room, though, players have to craft a special key. The effort is worth it, though, as the Cow Room offers some of the rarest item drops in the game.

The game's Game Masters are also planning on rewarding players for engaging with the game and passing level milestones. The fastest players to reach level 20 will receive 3,000 TCoins to spend on microtransactions, while all players who reach levels 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 will receive special prizes by the end of the open beta.

Sign up for the open beta and be ready to play on June 30 .
