GiiNii GN-711W Wedge Digital Picture Frame

GiiNii's GN-711W picture frame (US$60 as of 5/7/09) is a bit of a curiosity because of its wedge shape. Its design is very minimalist, with card slots and four unlabeled buttons on the right side of the frame. I found myself constantly consulting the inadequate manual.

This is too bad, because the picture quality of this frame, combined with its low price and sleek design, make it quite attractive. The color in my slide shows was vivid--though I did not like having a graphic of an analog clock and calendar alternating with each and every image in a slide show. Depending on your placement of the wedge-shaped frame, you may find the GN-711W difficult to view because of its low profile and its inalterable angle.

An interesting feature that sets this frame apart is its mode of image editing. You can scroll through thumbnails of your image with different settings applied and select the one you like best. Unfortunately, this exercise was unbelievably frustrating because of the buttons on the device. Scrolling was nearly uncontrollable.

Audio was not as difficult to wrangle, and will play automatically during slide shows through the unit's built-in speakers. The sound is about what you would expect from a small digital picture frame, but not terrible. After my struggles with the menu, however, I found this frame was more trouble than it was worth.
