GDC: Nexon Mobile gives green flag to KartRider Rush

Amidst the fast-paced conference environment at the Game Developers Conference Thursday, developer and publisher announced that it plans to release an equally swift-moving title in the iOS App Store. KartRider Rush (a mobile derivative of the popular Korean racing game, KartRider) will be available this month. Not only does KartRider Rush look like good cartoonish fun, but this racing title is completely free to play.

KartRider Rush takes players through a Mario Kart-style racing game where players can speed through a variety a courses and environments while avoiding hazards along the way. Players will have the option to control their racecars using their devices' accelerometer or touch controls.

The game features three modes: Speed, Item and Multiplayer. In Speed Mode, players need to gather nitro to increased their speed as they sprint and drift their way to the finish line. Meanwhile, Item mode may remind people the most of Mario Kart's iconic combat-based racing-- as you race through various obstacles, you'll be able to launch various items to attack opposing players. Finally, players can use a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection to join up to four friends online as they race and battle their way to victory.

Keeping up with Nexon's aim to provide free gaming for their users, KartRider Rush won't cost anything to purchase or play. However, the game will offer additional items for purchase (though these are mostly vanity and convenience items, not any products that will give players a leg up on their competition). Any additional items, such as cars or new tracks to race on, will run between $1 and $2.

But for those who don't want to hand over a few bucks to get in on the action, there's still the ability to unlock extra tracks, players, and cars the further you get into the game. Nexon America's CEO Daniel Kim was on hand at GDC, emphasizing how important it is for the company to provide a game that satisfies both users who want to pay to extend their gaming experience and those who want to play for free. Nexon believes that KartRider Rush is that product.
