Gartner observes strong sales for Asia Pacific server market

04.03.2011
Gartner observed a continuation of positive momentum in the Asia Pacific server market during the fourth quarter of 2010 that ended on 31 December 2010.

This momentum, according to the research firm, resulted in year-on-year shipment growth of 14 per cent and 22.4 per cent growth in revenues.

"Strong sales were driven by enterprise buying preferences favouring a richer configuration of rack optimised and blade servers," said Gartner principal analyst Errol Rasit.

Gartner's research shows that revenue from RISC/Itanium Unix servers and mainframes grew six per cent and 61 per cent year-on-year, respectively.

"Unlike the rest of the world, the region saw growth in the RISC/Itanium Unix servers and mainframes. Investment was driven by the largest vertical markets such as financial, telecommunications and government," added Rasit.
