An Australian state human services department, the Victorian Department of Human Services has awarded Fujifilm Australia one of the nation's largest health care contracts of its kind.

The A$28 million (US$21.5 million) contract is spread over five years with an option to extend for a further five years.

During this period Fujifilm will provide at least nine Victorian public health care agencies with a range of equipment and support services.

The deal covers a picture archiving and communications system known as Synapse, computer radiography diagnostic equipment, DryPix laser printers as well as support and maintenance.

Fujifilm Australia medical systems general manager Peter Carmody said each of the nine public health care agencies have a number of hospital sites within each region.

Carmody said the statewide system design is standardized on a distributed architecture connecting to a long term central archive system.
