Far Cry 2 the first game featured in PlayStation Home

Ubisoft beat its chest Thursday to announce that Far Cry 2 is the first third-party game to be featured in the upcoming closed beta of Home.

The Far Cry 2 space "will continue to grow and evolve alongside PlayStation Home," Ubisoft promised, aiming to create a "living, growing platform for both the Far Cry and PlayStation communities." No specifics were offered, however, on how that might be accomplished, or when the public version of Home would launch.

For the uninitiated, PlayStation Home is described as a "3D social gaming community that allows PS3 users to meet, chat, plan, and launch into games together." Gamers are encouraged to create their own virtual doppelganger, decorate their in-Home apartment, play mini-games like pool and whatnot, shop for virtual clothing, watch videos with others, and attend virtual events.

The virtual community, often compared to the once popular Second Life PC community and originally planned for release on PS3 in 2007, has been subject to multiple delays. In July, PlayStation presidente Jack Tretton told gamers, "Your patience will be more than rewarded."

Far Cry 2 is scheduled for release on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on October 21 and carries a mature rating.
