EA Preparing to Shut Down Harry Potter Dev Bright Light

14.10.2011
With the Harry Potter films having run their course, it looks like the UK-based EA Bright Light is on the verge of being shut down.

"After a review of all current and future projects, Electronic Arts has started a formal consultation process with its Bright Light employees over the proposed closure of the studio," EA said in a release.

Bright Light was primarily responsible for licensed games based on the Harry Potter movies, which tended to review quite poorly. Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2 received and respectively.

The studio does actually have an interesting history. Bright Light was once known as EA UK, which was an amalgamation of studios that included storied British developer Bullfrog, which was founded by Peter Molyneux.

Assuming Bright Light is ultimately closed down, Criterion will be the only remaining EA studio in the UK.
