Corporate Express gets new CIO

17.01.2007
Corporate Express Inc. said Tuesday it has hired Mark Settle, the former CIO of Arrow Electronics Inc., as its new CIO of U.S. operations, Corporate Express North America. One of his first tasks will be to implement a service-oriented architecture (SOA) at the Broomfield, Colo.-based company.

Settle said that Corporate Express, which sells business-to-business office supplies, is evolving into an international business and will be using IT to help accomplish its goal. Settle, who has also worked at Visa International, said he is "very acquainted with companies that use information technology to develop more of a global consistent set of business practices."

Corporate Express has created an SOA and is redeploying customer-facing services through this new architecture, Settle said. He said he's now on the ground floor of an effort "to migrate away from some of the [company's] legacy customer-facing applications and replace that with a true SOA architecture." The company is using technology from BEA Systems Inc.

Settle left Melville, N.Y.-based Arrow last year after five years with the company. Up until 2004, the company was on Computerworld's Best Places to Work in Technology list for four years.

Arrow last falled named Vincent Melvin as its vice president and CIO. He was previously executive vice president and CIO of Sanmina-SCI Corp. in San Jose.
