Computerworld Inc. CEO Bob Carrigan has been appointed to the newly created position of president of IDG Communications, the media arm of Computerworld?s parent company, International Data Group.

In his new capacity, Carrigan will oversee Computerworld and seven sister media outlets, including InfoWorld, Network World, Macworld, Bio-IT World and CXO Media, which publishes CIO, CSO and CMO magazines. He said that while the search has begun for his replacement at Computerworld, the shift will be transparent.

?Our print and online readers and advertisers, and our event attendees and sponsors, really won?t see a change,? Carrigan said. ?Computerworld is on the course we want it to be on. We have a very strong team in place to ensure that course is maintained, and my new position will enable me to continue working with the team to that end."

Carrigan will remain in the Computerworld CEO slot until his successor is named, sometime before the company?s new fiscal year begins Oct. 1.

Pat Kenealy, CEO of Boston-based IDG, said he created the new position because the breadth of IDG?s global business, which includes technology media, research, events and venture investing, requires a dedicated president in the U.S.

Before joining Computerworld in 2003, Carrigan spent four years as an executive in the Interactive Marketing Group at America Online Inc. Prior to that, he served for over a decade in senior positions at IDG?s Digital News and PC World.
