Compellent rolls out SAN replication

18.10.2006
Compellent this week rolled out replication capability of its storage arrays that lets customers copy data between storage systems of different types.

The Thin Replication software allows not only the replication of data but also bandwidth simulation, which consists of the ability to configure the amount of bandwidth needed for replication. It also includes a management console that lets the IT administrator configure and manage the replication process from one location.

Replication setup is accomplished via a set of wizards that require no training in Fibre Channel storage-area networks to use, according to the company. Bandwidth shaping can assign the amount of bandwidth capacity and prioritization to each volume of data being replicated.

Thin Replication software for two sites and 10TB of data costs US$100,000.
