The partner of Unisys Corporation in China has been picked to integrate key airport and traffic control systems in Chengdu Airport, which is considered Western China's busiest airport and China's sixth largest airport.

Sinotec, a Unisys partner in aviation industry in the Asia Pacific region, has tasked Unisys to build the core operational systems for the Chengdu Airport, including the Airport Operational Database (AODB) and the Flight Information Management system. The new AODB will be integrated with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system.

Unisys will supply the airport's Terminal 2 with the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and take the lead role in the interface design. It will also test and integrate all the various disparate airport systems to be used in the new terminal. Unisys will also be around as the systems undergo the trial phase and provide maintenance for five years after the complete system has gone live and been accepted, which is planned for 2012.

The systems need to be in place before the expected surge in passenger traffic, which is expected to increase to 53 million by 2015. This is an increase from 25.8 million passengers that the Civil Aviation Administration of China recorded last year.
