Bangkok upgrades surveillance network at Chinatown

18.02.2009
The Bangkok government is now operating a 24-hour video surveillance network in the city's Chinatown for public safety and traffic management.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Office (BMAO) has recently selected broadband communications provider Motorola's outdoor wireless mesh solution to run its surveillance network at Yaowaraj, Sumphanthawong (Chinatown) areas in Bangkok, Thailand.

The wireless technology-based video surveillance network is expected to strengthen BMAO's existing security apparatus and facilitates improved traffic management. The network uses Motorola's AP5181 access points to build the wireless backbone, and is the first of its kind to use open standards wi-fi technology for video surveillance applications by a government agency in Thailand. The project has been implemented by Motorola's Bangkok-based business partner and authorised re-seller TCM Consulting Group.

TCM Consulting Group is a Thailand-based provider of wireless long-range, enterprise local area networks (WLAN), video surveillance and voice over IP solutions.

All-weather surveillance

The AP5181 access point's self-assembling, self-healing mesh capability supports wi-fi multimedia extensions to ensure quality of service while extending wireless networks beyond and between buildings. One of the dual radios in the AP5181 radio can also be converted into a 24x7 dual-band dedicated sensor for the Motorola AirDefense solution to provide gap-free security.
