Asian manufacturers unaware about security risks

14.06.2011
About 58 per cent of Asian manufacturers do not know how many security events have occurred in their organisations in the past 12 months, according to a newly released report by IDC Manufacturing Insights.

"IDC Security Survey - Asia Pacific Manufacturing Results: Are we doing enough?" indicates that the information security budget among Asia Pacific manufacturers is forecasted to increase at a faster pace compared to the other regions.

However, manufacturers in this region are generally less concerned about their IT security budgets and IDC says this is due to a lack of knowledge about the potential security risks that exist in today's interconnected world.

Study also shows that about 64 per cent of Asian manufacturers do not know the nature of security events that occurred in their organisations in the past 12 months and this figure is higher than the worldwide average of 54 per cent.

On a positive note, information security has moved up the management hierarchy. IDC attributes this change to several factors, including increasing challenges in the new economy, the rise in cyber crime and the growing complexity of terrorist threats.
