Army of Two ready to try its hand in the movie business

Perhaps fueled by the bags of money video game-come-Hollywood blockbuster Max Payne generated in its opening weekend, EA has decided to give co-op title Army of Two a run though the Tinsel Town gauntlet.

As reported by Hollywood rag Variety, EA has licensed Army of Two rights to Universal. Scott Z. Burns, the man behind the Bourne Ultimatum script, is set to write the lines that will power Army of Two onto the big screen.

Variety also reports that EA is on board to produce the Army of Two movie. This is a first for the game publisher, and could signal a further synergy between the movie and interactive entertainment industries in the future.

Army of Two, not known for its stand-out storyline, could be modified a bit to mesh better with movie viewers, said Burns.

"The ambiguity of these private military corporations lends weight to an intelligent thriller with relevance to what's going on in the world right now. You have contractors with their own agendas, and two guys whose friendship supersedes all the politics. I told EA right off the bat I wasn't a gamer, and that appealed to them because they didn't want to simply replicate the game," he said.
