WatchGuard says XTM security fitting in times of crisis

Network security solutions company WatchGuard Technologies is recommending the use of the extensible threat management (XTM) solutions, describing these as "fit" in today's global economic crisis situations.

Norbert Kiss, vice president of WatchGuard in Asia-Pacific, described XTM as the new generation of the unified threat management (UTM) solution in the performance scale level.

Kiss told Computerworld Philippines that XTM is the next level of performance of UTM in terms of scalability, high security, investment protection and end-user choice.

The executive said XTM addresses the challenge of giving businesses threat management solutions that not only adapt, but can proactively deal with future and unknown threats so that high security is always maintained.

"We're addressing the future of security. We're moving from UTM to XTM, the fitting security in these times of crisis," Kiss said, adding that XTM offers the ability to add or to extend.

He said WatchGuard's XTM vision is built upon the premise that network security solutions fundamentally need to have that extended quality or ability.

"XTM appliances must be able to proactively adapt to dynamic network environments as well as protect against the litany of unknown, future threats," Kiss said. "With extensible protection, as businesses grow, so too does their security platform."

Kiss revealed most network administrators work in mixed network environments of disparate infrastructure components and solutions. He said it is essential for these administrators to have a flexible and scalable gateway security appliance that can be modified, updated and customized to meet their particular security profiles and postures.

Kiss said WatchGuard is targeting the medium-sized enterprises in the Philippines, those who have at least 3,000 employees and above, for its XTM and network connectivity solutions, from point solution to a single box.

He said WatchGuard has partnered with Lamco International to be their company's local IT distributor in the Philippines.
