US carrier Verizon is expanding its reach in the Asia Pacific region through a tie-up with Sri Lanka mobile provider Dialog Axiata.

The partnership is targeting multinational companies who may require private IP (Internet protocol) network capabilities.

Sri Lanka is the 16th stop for Verizon in the Asia Pacific region. The partnership will enable Verizon to tap into Sri Lanka's vibrant economy, particularly where business process outsourcing and other key industries thrive, and are expected to grow rapidly over the next decade.

Yali Liu, director of network planning and engineering, Verizon, said Sri Lanka is an "increasingly important market" for Verizon because of its global enterprise customers. "Our agreement with Dialog Axiata enables our customers to use Private IP services for their business needs in Sri Lanka," Liu added.

The partnership will offer to the global enterprise market a technology called packet-optical transport platform (P-OTP). Verizon said the technology is "a robust and economical platform that integrates a combination of connection modes, enabling Verizon to create the manageable and scalable capabilities required to support the growing demand of packet-based services."

This network platform allows multinationals to connect their businesses from Sri Lanka to the rest of world using private IP. P-OTP also allows Dialog Axiata customers to experience resiliency and improve performance.

Verizon's private IP offering includes six class of service, including a feature that prioritises latency-sensitive applications, such as VoIP and video, over office applications, such as e-mail.

Suresh Sidhu, group chief officer-enterprise and global business, Dialog Axiata said: "We are privileged to team up with and provide expertise in Sri Lanka to Verizon, a company with consistent customer-centric focus. Together we will offer great opportunity for global customers to come on board by using reliable, cost-effective solutions that enable them to be competitive in the markets they choose to serve."

Dialog Axiata is a member of the Axiata Group, which is one of the largest telecommunications players in the region. The Axiata Group has presence in Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Singapore, Iran, Pakistan and Thailand.
