The Week in iPad Cases: Greener pastures

06.05.2012
Welcome to another weekly roundup of new iPad cases. In this installment, we feature the usual selection of protective accessories for your tablet of choice, including some built with Mother Earth in mind.

New from the folks at Case Closed is a series of (iPad 3; £23 to £33) certified specifically to work with the third-generation iPad. Like the company's other products, these sleeves are ethically built from natural fibers and are shipped using materials that are 100 percent recyclable.

The company's (iPad 2 and iPad 3; £23) features a simple but sturdy construction to help you safely carry around your tablet without adding significant bulk to it. It's made of 1000D Cordura fabric woven around a closed-cell-foam material for protection against bumps and scratches.

The (iPad, iPad 2, and iPad 3; $30) is as green as green can get: Made entirely from German sheep's wool, these sleeves are produced exclusively using hand and foot tools, resulting in a product that uses only natural materials and human-powered processes. It's available in kiwi green or charcoal grey.

The (iPad 2 and iPad 3; $40) is made of lightweight polyurethane and features reinforced corners for maximum strength and protection. The case's front cover is compatible with the iPad's magnetic sleep/wake feature, and can fold over to prop up the tablet for viewing or typing. It comes in blue, red, white, black, or orange.

The (iPad 3; €115 and up) is a folio case made in Spain from premium leather with individual parts that can be customized in a variety of colors to match your taste. The case features several pockets for documents and accessories, and it can even be engraved with your initials for a small additional fee.

The (iPad 2 and iPad 3; $50) is a folio-style case with a front cover that folds around to help prop up your iPad at a landscape-orientation angle for viewing or typing. The Workbook is available in black, white, grey, purple, or brown, and each model comes with a set of four interchangeable straps that help keep your case secure and add a splash of color to your tablet.

The (iPad 2 and iPad 3; $50) features a composite construction with three-dimensional ridges to offer protection and aesthetic value, and it includes a durable, scratch-resistant-coated polycarbonate shield to protect your screen. The case's front cover is compatible with the iPad's magnetic sleep/wake feature and can be flipped around to support the tablet at several viewing angles. It comes in black, white, or red.

The (iPad 2 and iPad 3; price unavailable) provides a number of features designed with active use and children in mind. The case is made entirely of soft, silicone rubber--which is shock absorbing, water repellent, and easy to clean--and features a series of ribs to provide added protection. An extra-large bezel makes gripping the tablet easier. The Ekto 2 comes in frost white or black.

The promotional photos for the company's new (iPad 2 and iPad 3; $40) may make your inner parent scream in terror, but this sturdy case is built with tiny hands and their knack for destruction in mind. The fat corners and large handle in the back make securely carrying an iPad easy for the little ones, and the Widge, which comes in red, can also be used to prop up the iPad for reading.
