StarHub links ethernet service into Malaysia

18.02.2009
Telecommunications provider StarHub inked a partnership with its counterpart Telekom Malaysia (TM) to extend its international ethernet private line (IEPL) service into Malaysia.

StarHub claimed that businesses in Singapore can deploy high-quality data, IP and voice/VoIP solutions into Malaysia using StarHub's scalable and secured international ethernet connection.

The IEPL service utilises ethernet over synchronous digital hierarchy technology to securely transfer data from Singapore to overseas POPs and then deliver to the end-customer through the respective local carrier's ethernet over SDH network. According to StarHub, the solution is more cost-effective as it offers far greater scalability than traditional international private leased circuit services, with the same service-level guarantees.

StarHub's IEPL service, which scales from 2Mbps to 1Gbps, has been available to Singapore businesses that require point-to-point international ethernet circuits to Hong Kong, and thereafter to South Korea, mainland China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Japan, the US and UK.

Easy to deploy

"The service is flexible, secured and easy to deploy, making it the ideal enterprise connectivity solution for businesses gradually expanding across the region," said Adit Harinasuta, StarHub's head of services and solutions.

Added Mohamad Rozaimy Abd Rahman, chief operating officer of TM Global, the global sales arm of TM: "The standard ethernet interface used in the IEPL service is an excellent consistent technology and businesses will be able to gain cost savings for their CPEs [customer premise equipment].

"TM's technical experience will help companies fully enjoy a resilient and well-diversified network when they adopt this service in their operations. This is especially beneficial for enterprise segments with regional expansion plans that require high traffic data volume applications."
