Enterprise application software provider SAP has reported strong business momentum in the first quarter of 2011 (Q1 2011) and has achieved robust performance in Hong Kong and the Asia Pacific markets.

SAP Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) experienced first quarter software revenue growth of 31 per cent and according to the company, SAP Hong Kong specifically contributed to this performance.

Success in this quarter was attributed to SAP's core and analytics, line of business and indirect channel.

SAP markets in Hong Kong, China, India, Taiwan and Southeast Asia performed very well during the first quarter and this region recorded 31 per cent software revenue growth. This growth is higher than the global figure of 24 per cent, according to the company.

Also, SAP's software and software-related services revenue for Q1 2011 grew by 18 per cent across the APJ region.

SAP landed key customer wins in the region from all lines of business, across a wide variety of industries. Mike Hawes, managing director, SAP Hong Kong, said they are confident of doubling revenue even before 2015.

"SAP Hong Kong's dedication to innovation is also a key factor to the company's growth and our offerings in real time business and mobility will continue to contribute to the robust momentum that we have gained. We are confident that the strong momentum SAP has achieved will carry us into the rest of the year and produce solid results," added Hawes.

In the coming months, SAP intends to launch new in-memory, on-demand and mobility solutions in the APJ region.

"Our competitive position here has never been stronger. Our closest competitor in this region achieved only five per cent growth in application software revenues in its most recent quarter, while we achieved 31 per cent growth. Our indirect channel business also showed robust growth of 40 per cent this quarter," said Steve Watts, president, SAP Asia Pacific Japan. "APJ customers are looking to grow their businesses and move closer to their customers through mobility and real-time computing. They are seeing SAP as the only company with the technology, solutions and partner ecosystem to help them execute on their vision. By focusing on game changing innovations, we are seeing an accelerated sales pipeline."
